Sendai is the second largest city in Kagoshima Prefecture and is within easy reach of Kagoshima City, Nagasaki, Kumamoto along with other major centers in Kyushu and throughout Japan. Sendai City is at present the focal point for new development and expansion in all aspects of community life and international relationships, While preserving the advantages of its beautiful rural setting. Looks sub-tropical with palm trees and what not. Gonna be hot but looks nice. Cool placement I think.
Good luck with it.

Hello:
Well, I am here in Kagoshima Ken on the JET program. I am in Koriyama which was a small town and now part of the city of Kagoshima. I have been to Sendai a couple of times on my scooter and can tell you a little about it.
The city, in my opinion, is perfect. Not too big and not too small. Has a McDonalds, huge bowling alley (2 floors actually), and a big main street. It is on the Shinkansen line from Kag to Kumamoto but, as most people know, its a little expensive at 2000 Yen from Kag to Sendai (but it is fast)
If I remember correctly, they have 3 Jets there and all of them stay 3 years so they must treat them right.
It is a great big little town (sort of like Reno) and you should consider yourself lucky to be there.
You will fly down from Tokyo and someone will pick you up from the airport. You will have a conference in late August (2 days), a language conference in Konoye which lasts week in September, another conference in November and, if you re-contract, another conference in Kobe next June.
After the 2nd group comes down, a get together is usually arranged in Kagoshima where tehhe group goes bowling, then for dinner, and then drinking heavily until the wee hrs. of the morning. I am departing after 2 years here but let me know if I can be of service....
Any questions, go ahead and email me and I will let you know all I can. Good luck |
