Just a quick one, guys. I'm unsure as to whether to take a suit with me to Colombia later this month. Do you think it would be worth the hassle of taking it in order to make a good impression at interviews? I doubt many teachers wear suits when teaching (although having no experience of teaching I really don't know!) and it seems as though it would be a bit pointless having it around once I have a job.

Is it the sort of thing that might give me a bit of an edge with Business English Institutes etc?

Any thoughts?

Totally agree. Only ever used mine for weddings and an embassy reception. And I think once for church.

As long as we're sort of on the subject -
what is the normal teaching attire...semi-casual - no jeans, no open-toed shoes is what I'm thinking, right?

It varies from school to school.

It does vary from school to school, but to look professional most men wear a dress shirt (either long or short sleeves, depending on the climate), slacks, socks, and shoes. Some schools also want ties. Beach shoes are really frowned upon.

Unless you are teaching at the beach--which many people are--in which case they are indispensable. I bought my first pair of closed toed shoes in several years when I went to a cold climate to teach for a couple of months.
