I'm going to Taiwan for the summer to work and was wondering about banking money and visa runs. I don't really want to have the cash I earn just lying around, but can a person to Taiwan open a bank account on a visitors visa? And if not, any other alternatives to safely storing money? Also, I'll be there for only two and a half months. Since I am a US citizen can I fly out of the country after two months and fly back in and take advantage of our 30-day visa exempt status rather than extending at the embassy in Honk Kong which seems to be the popular route? Thanks. |

Theoretically you need an ARC to secure a bank account however this does not necessarily work in practice. I have secured two bank accounts here, both whilest on a visitor's visa. If you were so intent on getting one then I would suggest going there with your boss to his local bank. He will have a lot more influence. You will probably not be able to get one if you go there alone.
Alternatively you could go to any bank and transfer money to your bank account in your home country. But if you are only here for the summer then I'm not sure if it will even be worth it.
Not sure about visa issue for US citizens. Hong Kong seems to be the closest, easiest, and cheapest destination to fly to. You don't need to go to the embassy there if all you want is another 30 days. Alternatively you could go to Keelung and take the boat out to international waters and back into Taiwan. |

Do you how much this costs? Is it cheaper than flying to Hong Kong? |
