I applied to them in the first week of January 2005. Six weeks later I receive a phone interview. Then I receive an email asking me to start work; in 5 days. I do not have a visa, or a plane ticket. I reply that it is not possible. They then offer me another job; with the same time limit. This action occurs four times. Then they get the hint and don't offer me another job.

This was my first experience of Chinese narrow-mindedness. I am desperate to work in China and make the mistake of trying to adapt. I but a tourist visa and plane ticket: Big mistake.

Before you buy a visa, demand a letter of invitation from the school. Then ask if they will sponsor a work (Z) visa.

Everyone beginning a job in China should do this.

You should be able to easily get a job doing summer work. Schools are going to be desperate in about a month scrambling around trying to find teachers. Don't go through a recruiter. Look at various websites advertisting for teachers and send out your resume to any of them that sound reputable.

There is tons of summer work here. And also, remember, summer work usually pays more. Check out a few places before you take a job. You can make some good bucks in the summer.
