Hello all,
I have taught in Shandong for 2 years and am now looking for a position in the western provinces of Gansu, Xinjiang, Qinghai or Tibet. If any of you folks have any pointers or contacts holler.
Thanks. |

YOu can probably wait until the year 2222 to get a job in the so-called "Chinese province of Tibet"... |

actually, Lhassa university hires foreign teachers every so often. I know a guy from Australia who just signed a contract there for one year. |

I know someone teaching in Tibet too. I've never looked into it myself, but I do know for a fact she's teaching there, and she's from Canada. |

I don't think that Roger meant there are no TEFL jobs in Tibet. Rather, he was debunking the OP's notion that Tibet is a 'province'. |

Well, I am not accepting Tibet as a "Chinese (sic!) 'province'", to be sure, but in actual point of fact I have until recently been told by people close the the authorities that no foreign national can hope to get a job in Tibet for obvious political reasons.
I distinctly remember responding to a job offer by a NGO maybe 5 years back; they vetted everyone and you could tell by their PC lingo that they were kowtowing to the rulers over Tibet.
Most jobs in TIbetan-inhabited areas were in fact outside the Tibetan A.R.; they usually were in Tibetan districts in Sichuan, Yunnan or Gansu.
For Lhasa I reckon you need to have an iron constitution as the high altitude will no doubt take its toll on your health! |
