Hi. Has anyone heard anything about this college? Or about living in Xuzhou in general? Thanks very much,

Xuzhou is relatively "famous" in Dave's forum because a college outside town has been hooked up with an American-owned TEFL cert centre (the Boland School).
As for XUZHOU, I can only say this is just an ordinary city by even the Chinese standards - nothing, absolutely nothing to write home about. It's not exactly ugly, but it's not much more than other cities in the same part of China - industrialised, dusty, not offering a sophisticated city life. There is one museum that draws visitors to its Ming dynasty mausoleums.
Then again, many other places are far worse. IT is not inconveniently located between Ji'nan and Shanghai. |

| I haven't heard anything.. but do you have an ESL opportunity there? I'm just intrigued whenever I hear of any ESL opportunities that have anything to do with the scientific/medical community.... |

Yes, the medical college wants an ESL teacher to "Teach English Listening and Speaking, English Writing and teacher training"
It works great for me, because my degree is a B.Sc Biology with a Biochemistry minor, so I have some of the medical terminology. Plus I watch ER
Thanks so much for responding, everyone. Does anyone know how polluted it is, say in comparison with Nanjing? Thanks again,

Boland has moved since.
It started out near Xuzhou, and is now located in Suzhou and Dalian (according to website anyway).
As for Xuzhou, nothing much going on there.
Quite clean, I suppose. Much quieter than Nanjing.
Cheaper too.
You are near Beijing and Shanghai, and it's easy to reach other places like Nanjing, Suzhou and Wuxi as well.
I still wouldn't want to live there for very long though.

| I didn't consider it "clean" as dajiang suggested, but I couldn't say it was specially "dirty" in comparison to any other city. I*t's just like the whole plethora of Chinese cities - sooty (in winter they probably still heat their hovels with coal bricks) and there is quite some industry in the region. |
