Has anybody had any experience with this progammme ?
This is where teachers are "trained" for 2 weeks then placed.
How does it work ?
Can you choose between High School and Elementary, or no choice ?
What if you do not like your placing, can you change, or are you given the boot ?
How does the evaluation work etc etc.
Please write as much as possible.
Thanks |

I don't have any first hand experience with it, but I have had conversations with others that knew more about it than me.
I would be very wary about these positions. It wasn't clear to me that these were in fact legally sanctioned positions. The only legal positions that I am aware of are positions within a handful of schools that are participating in the governments initiative to get foreign teachers into rural schools.
Just because it has the government's name on it doesn't mean that it is legal unfortunately.
The biggest criticism that I can make of Taiwan is the fact that many times the people who should know - don't know. These education authorities should know the laws pertaining to the employment of foreign teachers but it is quite clear that they don't. I have no doubt that their intentions are good, and that the positions themselves are no doubt very good too. What I do take issue with is any idea that these positions are legal if indeed they are not.
You need to check whether the positions offer an ARC and if so whether the employer name on the ARC is the actual schools name. If it is the name of the recruiter or any other company then stay away. |
