A friend of mine is considering doing the 40 TEFL course with this company. Apparently they guarantee you a place teaching after paying them the 600 for the course. Has anyone any experience of the company, is this is a wise move? I get the impression until she gets some experience with i-to-i she might not get work with other companies and they know it, kind of thing.
Any advice/experience? |

I stumbled upon their site this morning when googling for teaching jobs in Nepal. You have to *pay* to teach Tibetan monks? If you have an 'in' with a particular lama you can often teach at his school - this was my experience in '01. If you go to K'du or Dharamsala there are notices for volunteer opportunities everywhere. It doesn't look like a promising outfit to me-if someone wants to spend money anyway I think it would be better getting a more widely recognized cert (CELTA or the like) in or near the country where you want to teach and searching for opportunities while you are there-at least this is my plan next year... |

The "guarantee you a job" part is just silly. You can find your own job---they are simply going to collect a commission.
A TEFL is a fine idea but as I understand it only Celta is worth much ---widely accepted. |

i-to-i TEFL courses start at 195 / $295 (the price for our online 40-hour course and our 20 hour face-to-face Weekend TEFL course). We also offer paid teaching placements offering guaranteed work in Korea, China and Thailand from 495, which may be where the confusion over our pricing structure has come from.
Our tutees can do a hands-on, interactive Weekend course with an experienced TEFL tutor (minimum CELTA qualified with 3 years teaching experience), an in-depth online course or a combination of the two. Paid teaching placements also include our online TEFL training course.

i-to-i training is recognised by no-one but themselves and the 'jobs' are 'volunteer' positions with you paying your own travel expenses. Go figure. |
There are several ways one of our tutees can get teaching work - by arranging their own jobs, by arranging a paid placement through ourselves or can gain valuable experience through our voluntary placements. Successful i-to-i TEFL graduates do NOT have to go through our volunteer placements.
Approximately 95% of our tutees find their own placements, either by travelling to the country or through web sites such as this one.
We have lots of happy customers and continue to hear fantastic stories of where the i-to-i TEFL certificate has taken people with their new found confidence.
If you have any queries about our TEFL courses, please contact:

No TEFL is not a fine idea. |

Some schools are legit and actually offer a good course (www.boland-china.com) and from talking to Katie, the head of the school, they dont have to make money from recruiters. The program makes money for itself. |

I checked out the i-to-i and considered it...but I am glad I went for my 4 week intensive course instead. An i-to-i can, in theory teach you grammer and vocabulary and you can even look at teaching methodes. But after 1 day of my course I think I learned more about the facts of teaching than I would have after compleating i-to-i. Somethings just cannot be learned while looking at a computer screen.
No offence, just my opinion
