Does anyone know how to find short-term contracts in Western Europe or possibly Central Europe? I'd just be looking for 3 - 6 months at a time. I'm currently finishing a 1 year contract in Taiwan which was way too long! I most likely have a teaching job in France next year but it won't start till Oct, so I'm looking for a job in Europe from Feb'ish - Sept.

Thanks!

Contracts are generally Sept thru June, and there is overall very little summer work in Europe. YOu might find some individual situation that would work for you, but the short answer is that what you're seeking isn't that common.

There are always teachers who leave their positions at the end of the calendar year, as well as new students / companies signing up for classes at the beginning of the New Year. Therefore, in countries with a good EFL job market, January / February would not be a bad time to find work that would last through June. Since most of the available work will not be advertised ahead of time, a local job search is particularly important. Another time of year when schools need replacement teachers, as well as teachers for new classes, is the beginning of the last trimester. That would be right after the Spring / Easter break. In 2006 Easter will fall on 16 April.

Regarding the summer, if you are under 30 years of age and willing to teach children, there would be work available teaching English in summer camps. Other than that, there may be a little academy work providing intensive classes.

Good luck,
