|
|
This is a forum newbie question, not an esl one.
I've noticed many times that people will use the word tread to refer to the series of posts underneath a topic. I used to assume that it was a typo for the word thread, which makes sense (a continuous stream of ideas or conversation) but I've seen tread so many times that I'm beginning to have doubts. So which is it? Thread or tread? |

Thread is correct. Tread is lazy typing.
With nothing better to do this afternoon than stare longingly out of my office window and ask people whether or not they are a truck, I decided to consult keNt's super dictionary which brought this up for thread (see noun 4b)
http://www.bartleby.com/61/29/T0182900.html
and nothing even remotely resembling for tread. |

Dear xnihil,
Maybe " tread " because in some forums, even angels might fear to -
but now I've lost my thread of thought.
Regards,

Maybe people are just trying to needle you with the word "tread"
If so, I suggest we sew up this thread |

Or maybe they never learned how to spell.... You know,"needle and tread" One of my favorites is people who spell "prostate"(as in prostate gland) as "prostrate".Ah,yes, the poor "prostrate" gland. His "prostate is "prostrate". |
