i'm in LA right now...and according to AEON's website, there is no deadline and it's basically a rolling adminissions process...with that in mind, when is the best time to apply for AEON? i keep reading b/w Dec and Feb or March...what if i applied now, or 1-2 months from now? would it make a difference in my chances? also if i applied in the near future, and they didn;t have any positions available at the moment, would they reserve a spot for me in the future if i was qualified and accepted into the program? thanks... |

Apply whenever you like. The 'best times to apply' posts are mainly about applying for positions to teach within the public school system in Japan, eg with dispatch companies. The big Eikaiwa chains have a rolling application process. |

The visa application process takes about 8-12 weeks till you get your work visa so if you applied in July you would be coming out here in about October. They send people where they need them and where there are openings and you really have no say in where you end up being posted.
NOVA is currently making people wait 6 or 7 months for a placement, but i dont know about AEON.
If you qualify for a work visa and they accept you its just a matter of sitting tight until they have an opening for you that you are prepared to accept. |

so say they had an opening for me that i didn't want to accept...and they came back a little later with another opening...can i keep on rejecting the offer until a suitable one comes along? or will my picky-ness be a turn off? |

I havent worked at AEON so anything i say is pure speculation. You can ask to be sent to a particular area but they make no guarantees on location and you can not specify or demand where to be sent.
Remember you are a low-level entry level employee, a warm body that they need to fill a chair in one of their schools. there are dozens of other people waiting in line and if you start being picky they may simply send you to the back of the line or choose someone else.
If it were me I would simply write the guy off as demanding and choosey. thats just me though
My advice to people generally is be flexible, you may not get to go where you want but you will have a job in the bag and you need to gain work experience anyway. Get some experience, earn your wings and once you have been here 6 months put in for a transfer. Starting making demands before you have got on the plane will just put you in the "too-hard-to-please" category. There are dozens of people waiting to take your place.
You really have no way of knowing whether one place is better to work at than another if you have never been here so I suggest you keep an open mind about location rather than being dogmatic and stubborn. You need them more than they need you, IMO. |
