If your talking about a room with a private entrance, Santa Mara la Ribera (calle Dr. Enrique Gonzales Martinez and parallel streets, near Metro Revolucion) or along Maestro Antonio Caso (Tabalacara metrobus stop) have Cuarto Ameublados like this that rent for about 350 MN a week.
I pay 2000/mo + electricity and gas for a one-bedroom apartment in Santa Mara la Ribera, in an older building. I had to provide my own appliances (the rule, rather than the exception, in Mexico City apartments), though the landlord provided the water heater. I'll be moving in October, by the way... |

Pick up a copy of the Segundamano and start hunting when you arrive. Easy to find spots.
They have a webpage, but they don't list rooms for rent there. |

I'm going to be working in Colonia Anahuac and taking classes at UNAM Polanco. These are neighboring areas where I will obviouwly be spending most of my time so I'd like to live close to both. I'm afraid Polanco might be too expensive, and have been told by a couple people from DF that Anahuac is quite dangerous. Anyone familiar with these two areas, or this part of the city in general?
Any recommendations about alternative areas nearby that might be affordable, safe, and/or close to the metro?
I'm also curious how much a single, lightly furnished single would go for in Polanco.
Thanks in advance. |

You might get lucky in Polanco with a room at 2000-3000 pesos, but it can be expensive. Some places only accept dollars.
Try looking at colonias in and around the same area. Anahuac and Polanco can be considered dangerous, usually by people who don't live there. For something more economical, look at Colonias Santa Maria de la Ribera (near metros Normal and San Cosme), colonia Cuauhtemoc - where I live - (close to metros Sevilla, Cuauhtemoc, and Insurgentes), colonia San Miguel de Chapultepec 9close to the same metros) or even in Zona Rosa.
I'd be happy to give you a hand when you get into town. I'm constantly helping our teachers find places to live in DF. |
