I'm looking to do some kind of course that might help me land a better job or more private students. But I don't know which is the right one to do. Are some better than other depending on which country I want to teach in?
I'm a native english speaker and have a university degree. Please send me your opinions and/or anything you know about the different qualifications.

Where do you want to teach. Generally, the CELTA is the most recognized world wide and it is also very consistent from centre to centre. An employer will know that the standard of a CELTA is pretty much the same anywhere. Trinity is another cert that is well known.

Yes. By the way, I think CTEFLA is just the old name for the CELTA isn't it? Am not familiar with the others listed, sorry.

I want to go to Japan first, but I would like to travel to Europe and/or other parts of Asia, so I want to do a course that is most widely recognised.
Does anybody know where to do a CELTA course near Brisbane, Australia?
And there were some topics discussing the difference between CELTA and CTEFLA.. I think the latter is a bigger course.

I'm 99% sure the CTEFLA doesn't exist anymore. It was replaced by the CELTA, but expect someone'll correct me. Even if you do come across a longer preparation course (as some unis. do), probably not worth bothering with. The CELTA is the one that's instantly recognised and accepted so better to get that, get a job, then if you feel like studying more in future look into diplomas or masters later.

By the way, I think there's an International House in Brisbane - they'll do CELTA courses - www.ihqld.com (I think)

Thanks for all the input and info. Yes, there are 3 places that teach the CELTA course in Brisbane.

But I found that CELTA is actually a course only to teach ADULTS. Aren't there many jobs in Europe teaching kids? Or do you think employers prefer teachers with the CELTA anyway?

Naoshika - Yep! CELTA is 'adults', and it's one of the big jokes of TEFL these days 'cos almost everyone who teaches now is going to be doing quite a high proportion of kids, like it or not. The CELTYL is still pretty rare and the CELTA is, in practice, the standard for anyone wanting to teach either kids or adults - or at least their starting point.

I've never met anyone who did just the CELTYL. Only people who had CELTAs then did a supplementary CELTYL course once they were in teaching. Check it out if it interests you though - you might break new ground, but there's no real need to worry that a CELTA won't get you a job teaching kids - it will. It just won't prepare you for it and I'm sure you wouldn't really want to buck a time honoured TEFL tradition by actually being prepared for the job!
