Hi,
I'd like to know if anyone has any experience of living in New Delhi. Do you know if 15000 rupees a month is enough for one person to live on? (just this salary, no accomodation, no healthcare benefits).
Thanks for your help! |

Hi - a one bedroom flat in Delhi will cost you 7000 rupees a month at least. Food - two to three thousand. So, I dont think 15,000 is very much at all to live in Delhi- which by Indian standards is an expensive city. I hope this isn't what they're paying you for teaching English full-time there!

That's US$344. Many middle-class Indians make more than that. The typical English teaching job at call centres in Indian cities pays US$1,000 per month. |

Don't embarass us by accepting such an offer. Keep the standards high and demand more. Borrow some coin from somewhere and get qualified. Return to India and demand a minimum of $1000/mo. |

India is truly an awesome experience! Best food on the planet if you are vegetarian. Great selection of English-language books. Visit the Book Fair in Calcutta in January and be overwhelmed.
I too consider flying to India, specifically Bangalore, and applying for call centre work. Is anyone on this board currently working at a call centre? I presume Bangalore, as the high-tech hub is pricier than even New Delhi. I must research which cities the call centres are located in. My vote would be for a smaller city. If the wage is decent you could save a lot. My experiences in Indian backwater locations is that the cost of living is dirt cheap. Bombay and Calcutta - forget it $$$$. Unless things have changed a lot in the last five years I would rate New Delhi as only middling (Mumbai and Kolkata are way more)
Take gut enzymes like acidophilus. You *will* get sick. The only question is how long and how bad. |

There are regular India call-centre job postings on the International Jobs forum here on Dave's. |
