Your reply made me laugh so much..shme...very nice.

Actually, HK used to be a place where just being a native speaker could land you all sorts of opportunities. No longer however. Now you need to be just as qualified to do a job as you would back home, and maybe more, as they would like you to speak Cantonese/Mandarin as well.

Damn, that just looks and feels nasty...

Thought I'd try it on for size though.

HK is full of opportunity and challenges OR schemes and a narrow minded society.

IMHO, it's what you make of it.

Short answer - yes there are jobs [classifiedpost.com, jobsdb.com, asiaxpat.com.hk and more in print]

Long answer - if you knock on the wrong doors with the right attitude you'll soon feel depressed and beat. Other way round, same thing - so I guess it's about finding the right doors and making sure you have the right attitude.

One big mistake a lot of people make is that they reckon HK owes them something. Other posters will tell you this as well - but in a more hostile tone disguised under the pretense of saving you from yourself because you think the streets are paved with gold.

I think it has to do with your time here - I'm coming up to 3 years and the sense of perspective is lost more and more and harder to find.

Basically in 3 more years I will be the SOB who tells you like it is and if you don't like it you can shove it - actually if you don't like it I will shove it for you.

I need a drink...

Smiles and happy faces - hope the links help! Rolling Eyes
