Hi
I have been teaching in Asia for 7 years. For health reasons, the doctors have suggested (demanded) I move to an area where it is hot and dry.
Having grown up in Texas, Mexico would be my first choice. However, my knowledge of Geography is 30 years old. Hopefullly I will make the move or at least a trip down there to look things over in about 6 months

I am looking for a dry, hot (not too hot if possible but I need to avoid the cold) area with as little polution as possible, where it is still possible to get a teaching job with a fairly good school. If some areas look good I might spend a few months backpacking and checking out the locations.

All suggestions are appreciated.

The desert areas get very hot in the summer. You might try something like Hermosillo, Sonora for a good choice of jobs if you require the hot, dry climate.

Never been to Hermosillo myself, but two people who have taught there told me that it is VERY hot and dry in summer but VERY cold in winter, so it may not be the ideal spot for you.

Im fairly familiar with Hermosillo. Its climate is much like the Tucson/Phoenix area where I used to live. Day and night temps vary 30-35 degrees F and thats all year round. It does get cold in winter but that is only in the early morning hours before the sun comes up. After sunup, whatever frost (or in some elevations outside of the city, a little bit of snow) there is disappears quickly. Having a room heater and a couple of good blankets should do ya.

While it does get freaking hot... the plus is that because it is so dry, evaporative coolers (basically a wet pad with air blowing through it) works extremely well. (only exception is right before the rainy season when it is too humid for the cooler but no rain is falling yet to cool the fierce afternoon temps, but that period is usually short). Evap coolers are a lot less draining, energy-wise.

I rather like Hermosillo. Still has a lot of "vaquero" feel to it and is a bit cleaner than Toluca, where I live now.

Torreon is pretty hot and dry, winters aren't the warmest but it is a nice city.
