Hi,

I am a 25 year old New Zealand woman about to do my CELTA. Hope to do some unpaid teaching experience and home tutoring here in NZ before heading o'seas.

Am really keen to head to the South of Spain. Have an EU passport.

Can anyone advise me on any good schools down that way, or warn me off any dodgy ones?? Cheers!

I hear it's much cheaper living in the south - what sort of an hourly rate should I expect, bearing in mind I'll be relatively inexperienced? What sort of monthly salary would I need to be earning to live comfortably? Am not a big boozer but like eating out, the occasional hair cut, want to travel within Spain, maybe also visit Italy and France if affordable.

I will have a temporary free place to stay in Granada from March 2006 (am aware September is best time for job hunting) - is it really a good idea to just rock on over to Spain and find a job once you're there?? Sounds like most schools insist on interviewing you face to face anyway???

Is E350 a month about standard rent in the South? More? Less? Am I dreaming if I want my own place to myself?

Also, can anyone recommend a good bank, or should I set up a bank account before I leave NZ, say with HSBC or similar??

What paperwork is involved in getting a social security number?

Finally, any issues/advice/cultural do's and don'ts for a young, single, white woman living alone in Spain??

Any help appreciated, cheers!
