Hi.
Does anyone have or know of any information regarding teaching at
Jiangsu Hua Luogeng Middle School . I have been offered work, but the contract was to one sided? or to simple, as my lawyer friend from Shanghai said. Pay not good, but that does not bother me? any one with info? please advise.
Thanks marky4. |

I don't know the school. Did you try the 'search' function at the top of the page?
Contracts in China are always 'simple'. But flexible. You can throw in some paragraphs of your own, if you're willing to be a hard-ass.
There are lots of people here who know more than me about contracts, but the gist seems to be: they're mostly a guide, and mostly are from a template. The general bit first, and the appendix second with the juicy bits like salary and living stuff. Search for 'contracts' on this site and you'll get lots of advice.

Question or statement? Pay should be above 3,000 anywhere. 4,000+ in medium cities, 5,000+ in big cities. Private schools 5-6,000+ depending on qualifications. Anything over 20 hours should see a big salary hike. Overtime at least 100RMB an hour.
That last paragraph is entirely my opinion.
Good luck, and don't spare the research before you come. |

What I've been told (and it seems true from my experience) is that most contracts are "standard" Chinese contracts. The wording may be slightly different here and there, but all the basics are covered: work period, salary, Party A's (the school) responsibilities and obligations as well as Party B's (you), on and on.
The "meat" of the contract is found in the appendix. Here it gives you more detail should you become ill, about your living arrangements and all the "extras" that come with it, special pay quirks such as holiday pay or sick leave pay (if any). Maybe you can make a special deal with your school about something that the other FTs won't get. It'll be in your appendix.
We've had this thread recently when it comes to pay and other things (should you negotiate or not?). I'm guessing most schools are expecting some sort of negotiation, be it concerning your monthly pay, your apartment, or any other "extras". My advice is to gently inquire about whatever concerns you. If your concerns aren't addressed at all or are not appealing to you, then you should probably try and find a job elsewhere. These little things can build and build and you may end up being frustrated throughout your entire contracted period. |
