Honda Tiger/Suzuki Thunder - could someone please let me know what the 'new' prices are for these bikes in Indonesia. I've searched the internet but haven't found much.
Thanks in advance. |

Prices vary slightly around Indo but in Jabotabek basic price for Tiger is as low as 18.5Juta - expect to pay about 2M extra for cast wheels version. Thunder is bl**dy expensive at 21-22M for 250cc - and Suzuki's spare parts service is, according to friends, erratic at best. Far less available after-market goodies and bolt-on's for the Thunder as well.
Yam Scorpio Z also 18.5M. I chose it because although not as pretty as Tiger it has a couple more horses plus monoshock rear bounce. If honda would make a 250cc tiger with monoshock I'd buy it. |

I remember riding a Honda CB 400 in Thailand a few years ago - it reminded me of a much bigger version of the Tiger (I assumed then that the tiger was based on the CB) - When I was last in Indonesia I bought a used Tiger which came with an STNK - if buying new must you pay extra for an STNK?
Also, I rode a Thunder & for the extra 50cc you don't get much power (if any).
Thanks for the prices. |

Those prices are 'on the road' including the requisite backhander to procure a STNK quickly - mine took 4 days. Price also invariably includes crappy jacket, a few free services, and Tupperware helmet.
I just got back from a MAD CRAZY INSANE weekend with my bike club doing escort duties for a Yamaha 'touring' event from Jkt to Puncak. This involved escorting 120 inexperienced scooter and bebek riders in a massive convoy through traffic that is as mad as a bucket of frogs at the best of times. We had a police car up front with blue lights (a small backhander courtesy of Yamaha at police HQ) and I found myself blocking off sideroads to stop crazy tukang Bajaj and ticking off riders trying to ride 4 abreast while holding a conversation and sharing a picnic.
I've ridden a bike for 25 years including a lot of London traffic, done police bike training, but nothing in my life so far could have prepared me for that trip. |

I once rode from Tanah Lot to Surabaya in the rain, in one sitting - on my trusty Honda Tiger. With the Bali/Java crossing I think the whole trip took 14 hours - I remember getting off that bike & walking into a Mcdonalds dripping wet & covered in black cr@p - walking like a crab!!! |
