Hello everyone,

I am switching my teaching location for many reasons and need some quick advice. Is 12000 pesos salary and 4000 pesos subsidy for housing a decent wage in Mexico City. My life style is the norm for a teacher. I like to hit the pubs, travel, and I hate cooking. I have lived in Baja in the early years of my life, but it was not Mexico City. Any advice. What benefits does the normal contract have here? All your advice, sarcastic and helpful is welcome.

Cheers,
Travis

That is a fairly nice deal indeed. Sounds like Tec de Monterrey? If your hours are under 40 per week, then you've landed a nice job here, though eating out all the time will eat into that salary, not to mention a lot of travel.

That's my deal in the city. I go out every weekend and live well... I can buy decent clothing when needed, drink, travel, and save. When my housing substidy eventually ended it was a bit tougher to save money, but that's because I didn't really adjust my lifestyle. You will be perfectly fine on what you're making.
Cheers, Sami

Sorry it took so long to respond. I took off on a small vacation before my contract started. Thanks for the input. You put my concerns at ease! Now all I have to do is find a place when I get there in a few days. My school is putting me up for two weeks in a hotel, which should be enough time for me to find a decent place in the DF. I am not as picky as most of these posts on living conditions. Dangerous is living next to the bull ring in Tijuana de Playas during your drunk college years.
