Any advice from the veterans out there regarding mailing stuff via surface mail from Can/U.S.A to Mexico.....is it reliable, will I receive what I sent (intact), will it be rummaged through and pillaged....is it worth it? I'm thinking of mailing myself some items once I'm set up...good or bad idea? thanks.

Don't send shoes! Or sweets/candy/whatever you like to call it!

Everyone I've ever heard of having trouble has had these in their parcel. One story I heard involved the person's parcel never turning up, at either the destination or the origin. Shocked

Based on personal experiences, not a very good idea. I'm still waiting for some things that were mailed to me from the U.S. back in 1996. Crying or Very sad

thanks guys...just as I suspected.
What about courier services...or would it be better to fork over the cash for extra baggage?

The aforementioned shoe laden package was sent by FedEx, I believe. Although I have never had problems sending things from Mexico to Australia by FedEx, I've heard lots of stories about things disappearing in regular mail.

Would it be cheaper and/or less stressful to collect the things when you go home for a visit? I knew someone who did that quite often between Mexico and the States. Just travel with an empty bag, and fill it up when you go home.
