This is not an advertisement and I post this of my own free will:

This past spring, I worked for a language school in Hangzhou called "Dell International". My liason's name was Carol. I have to tell you, this was a truly wonderful working experience. I only worked part-time a couple nights a week, but I really enjoyed it. I taught adult students, most whom seemed really eager to learn and participate (so different than from my "regular" job). Really, I didn't have to do much "teaching" of English, rather letting them practice what they knew, correcting pronunciations, and introducing a few vocabulary words and terms into their lexicon. These were advanced students, by the way - - so obviously there is teaching to be done there, this class was just a pretty cool group of people.

As for Dell itself, it was a nice, clean, comfortable work environment with happy and attentive employees. They never asked for more than what we agreed upon at the onset and pay was always on time (and my last day was in the middle of a month and they just paid me that very day instead of making me go back later). As for lesson planning, it is a breeze. They use a certain series of textbooks and they provide you a teacher's book and tapes and tape player. There's not a lot of time you'll have to use in planning, but the more time you use the better your lessons will be I imagine. If you are in Hangzhou and are seeking full or part time work and you have been considering Dell International, I say that you won't be sorry.

I had friends who worked for Dell and also liked it pretty well. I visited the school and met Carol. She's nice and the school inside was pretty nice too... also a good location... on Jiefang Lu just across from the International Post Office and next to Starclub Coffee close to the city river and near a bus stop!

Don't know about any website for them but I think I may still have the phone number somewhere. Anyone wanting it, PM me.

Actually, they've moved locations since you've visited. They are now on QingChun Lu. Their webpage: http://www.dellenglish-hz.com

Nice.

I think it's cool that they allow people to come in and work part time for extra money or experience. I wish more places were like that.

Good luck with whatever you're doing now!

Always a skeptic, isn't there? No, I've spent many a post complaining about some jobs I've had. I just wanted to share a positive experience to counter some of those negative ones. No money- - "free will", remember?

Dear Kevin,

Please ignore that poster's comments. I for one appreciate the tips about the school in Hangzhou. I live near Hangzhou and could use some extra dollars in the evening.

Thanks as always.

Alex

I was their 1st teacher...I used to go to the Sunday A.M. English Corner at the West Lake and spread the word about the school, and invite folks to the free Sunday afternoon Movie Magic demo presentations. They paid my penalty fees to enable me to exit from my contract with a well-known Hangzhou-based group (and my rat-infested apt.)
