|

I have an interview for a British school in Sharjah and have spoken with the headteacher and she seems rather nice. If I am offered the job I think I am going to take it. Apparently it is 20 minutes to Dubai which is nice . Flights are paid and accomadation is free. Wages equate to 1000 pounds sterling per month approximately. So....bit of a paydrop but if I cared too much about the cash I wouldn't do this job so....
Is this a viable deal in terms of the money? Can I live out there on that? >Single no kids, pets or illegitimate children.
I am happy with the terms and conditions of the work etc but I would like to hear from somebody who has worked in this area of the world for a little feedback on the ins and outs of everyday life outside of school. Is it safe, what can I do, what can't I do, are there sexy girls there, will I get my hand chopped off if I steal a penny sweet from Woolworths???? Are there nice beaches, if I get offered a joint and puff it will I be executed?what is worth seeing out there etc etc etc anyway any info appreciated, I love you, thankyou.
By the way this is a secondary job for fully qualified teachers not ESL so sorry if I came to the wrong forum but these forums seem to cater for teaching jobs in that area.
Answer plz I am waiting - Interview on Tuesday - Respect ya nan

Whether you can live on 6/7,000 aed a month rather depends on how you want to live and if you have to pay utilities but you will certainly need a car. Sharjah used to be cheap but it's almost the same as Dubai now. Sharjah to Dubai in 20minutes? If you are very lucky! The last time I did the trip from Dubai to Sharjah in the evening it took an hour and a half. Friends need an hour to get from Sharjah corniche to Sharjah university city. The UAE is safe and hands are not chpped off but drugs can mean prison then deportation and there are lots of secret police - I have taught many of them. There are few clean public beaches anywhere in the country but you can join a hotel beach club. Lots of young singles in Dubai . . . Sharjah is dry, by the way, although you can get a licence to buy alcohol. Which school is interviewing you? Most teachers I know in Sharjah send their children to secondary school in Dubai. Anyway, good luck! |

Hey cheers, I appreciate the information mate. Obviously because I havn't had the interview yet details are sketchy but I'm not telling you which school in case you are secret police. I just wen't to a site that told me that if you are found drunk in Sharjah you get lashed ... OH MY GOD. Well their country I'll stick to their rules I guess. I will do a re-post on Tuesday after the interview. Perhaps then you can give me some more info. Really appreciate the reply by the way.
