I've been here a while now and I find that the language school ethos of teach till late, then go to the pub ( with or without students ) appeals but as a result I sleep through the morning unless I have to get up to teach. I'm happy but I wonder if this is normal. Comments please. |

When you say you have been a while......how long is a while? but it sounds like my first 5 years of efl teaching in Turkey.
Iam now a a middle aged git who is jealous and cant handle that anymore. Enjoy it while it lasts
as an after thought. If you are in a job where you are teaching until 9 or 10 at night i think it is difficult to go home and sleep. Teaching a class of however many students you need to go home/bar/restaraunt and have some chill time. Am i alone? you have been centre of attention(yeah yeah yeah you shouldn't be but it happens) you have alittle bit of a buzz going on and you need to relax. Dont worry |

Sounds exactly like ET. Do you work for us?
More language school ethos:
Doing students
Being cheap
Sharing flats
Not preparing lessons
Falling out with each other
House parties where you can talk about anything
Fighting over money on payday
School runs out of cash on payday
Getting advances on last month`s salary
Avoiding the nutter teachers
Listening to teacher lies and fantasies and thinking what`s his/her problem
Arguing over bills
Hating the DOS
Buying your own boardmarkers
Students complaining without telling you their problem first
Wearing crappy clothes to work and nobody caring
Travelling by public transport to save money
Getting off with your private student
Doing any of these? |

My excuse for going to the bars after work was that I was too tired and lazy to cook.
Kinda miss those days sometimes... |

I figgered it's when they haven't yet paid you for the month before, claiming they have no money because the students haven't paid yet and that pesky rent was due again, so you go to the office begging for money for a dner and maybe a little extra to keep your lights going, and they gloweringly give you 20 millon, noting it in all their little books as an 'advance' because their accounting procedures don't allow them to do it any other way, all the while acting like they're doing you a big freaking favor.
Ouch, touched my bitterness about the late days of the old Interlang... |

It is bad. But your little dog is reliably happy as always and that helps a little... |
