Does anybody know of any site that lists some URL or email addresses of English schools here in BsAs? The online yellow pages site only has phone numbers and addresses. Is it even worth me sending my resume to different schools in town, or do I need to physically visit their offices and submit my resume and see if there are positions available. I just got into town from Chile, and I'm trying to figure out how to find work here. Any info you could spare would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would send an email with a cv attached but then count on following up immediately. I doubt you will get any response with just an email so then call and see if they can give you a time to come and meet them. When you call, you can say that you have sent your CV and they can have a look. Person to person contact is the only way...or by far the best.

A few months back when I came to the decision to move to BA, totally blinded by my excitement (or naivete, whichever you prefer), I sent dozens of emails with my resume and a cover letter to English insitutes all across the city. The only response I got was from a Catholic boarding house that would have me to be as well versed in scripture as I was in English, and to have no qualms with abiding by their lifestyle guidelines. Suffice it to say that I couldn't meet their standard.

Although I didn't possess any teacher certification, only a 4-year bachelor's degree, I suspect that the enthusiasm exhibited by these BA language schools towards me is fairly typical of anyone soliciting them by e-mail. I think it's really difficult to arrange any type of work in advance. I know a few people who have taught English in BA w/out a degree, basically just bought a plane ticket and showed up, but they got work from making quick contacts once they were down there. Good luck to you though, and let us know how it all works out for you in the end.

Check out www.seaweb.org.ar. I just emailed my resume to all the institutes, and a few got in touch with me and then hired me after an interview. Now is a really good time to start looking because a new semester is starting.

Good LUCK!

I'm coming to Buenos Aires with a prefab list , meaning I already have a list of schools to contact and who also has my cv. The information I'm getting on this forum seems consistent with I've been told, the pay scale, areas to live in, so I will be better informed come interview time. Thanks for the insight. Hope to meet some of you soon.

All the best,

Joan Mitchell
