Hi, wonder if someone can give me some advice. I'm somewhat of a strange mix: i was born in Israel, and English is not my native language. However I have spent a lot of time overseas and speak it fluently. My writing is ok, but my spelling is a little shaky.

I really want to teach English in china, preferably to children, kindergarten would be ideal if those jobs are out there. Unfortunately i don't have a degree.

As far as appearance goes, i am quite tall, and suntanned. Jewish looking. female

so could i get a job?? Would i improve my chances with a TEFL qualification? Any advice much appreciated!!!

I see that you have taught in Taiwan before, so you do have some experience. However, the fact that you are a non-native speaker and a non-degree holder may not give you too many job offers especially if you are looking for government middle school positions. I don't know if you have a thick Israeli accent (I worked with an Israeli before and she had a very think accent that students often couldn't understand). But you do have the distinct foreigner face.

My suggestion would be to post some job-wanted ads and see if you get any offers. There are many private language schools that hire non-native speakers. I won't name any but you may want to check out the thread of www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=26082

Shalom Kiwitraveller,
and welcome to China. With your experience (Taiwan) and your determination you will land a job here; I note your interest in kindergartens - please try, try again, and then try some more - it canbe very rewarding.
One regular poster here is a Russian girl; she too works in kindergartens. Contact cheekygal.
