Assalaamu Alaykum,
I am from London, I have a years experience in teaching but, however, I don't have no degrees, I am currently studying towards a Diploma in TESOL via distance learning, successful completion of this will enable me to go straight onto a dissertation towards an M.A. in TESOL.
Me and my wife would like to come to KSA to teach English, I have sent our CVs to some organisations in KSA and am currently awaiting their reply.
Can anyone here make any recommendations as to how we can go ahead about this. We would be available for relocation w.e.f. late November to early December 05.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Regards,
Ma Salama |

Yes, firstly find out all about double negatives. After this look into the use of the oblique case within a nominative clause. which 'university' is offering to let you study for a TESOL MA? |

Which university is offering me a MA TESOL is not your concern. I asked for advice not sarcasm. |

Ok, here's some advice. Find yourself a new profession, you should not aspire to be an English teacher, you are in need of an English teacher. You expect to be able to teach a subject of which you have only the most basic grasp. |

Thanks for your advice. If Allah wills, I will be succesful in what I have intended to do, your cheeky remarks/advice and sarcasm are nothing compared to the will of Allah. Nothing you say or do will change what I want.
There have been numerous people who have looked at my posting, they may have felt the same way as you. However, due to them being much more mature than you they left no message.
You may have a better understanding than me in the mechanics of the English language, however your mental state doesn't seem so sane.
Looking out for mistakes people make on discussion forums is not everyones hobby. |

This must be a wind up. On the off chance that it is not, I believe Allah is willing you to dig the roads, He certainly can have no plans for you with regard to the teaching profession. By the way your last message was missing an obligatory comma, and an apostrophe. |

The mistakes were made deliberately and more will be made to keep you entertained, as you clearly have nothing better to do with your time. Even better as I am so ''desperately'' in need of a teacher and you are the ''expert'' would you be kind enough to be the teacher???
With regards to the will of Allah, we plan and Allah also plans and Allah is the best of planners. Everything good and bad happens but only by the will of Allah.

Mohammed,
I fear that you might be assuming that you will have a good chance at landing a job in KSA due to the fact that you are a muslim. Without a proper first degree, an internet TESOL and possibly an internet MA, which sounds fairly dubious considering you don't have a degree to begin with, you don't stand much chance of getting a job.
The various language schools may consider hiring you but it would be a poor package for a married man.
Check out more threads on this forum and others and you will see that in general, a first degree is a bare minimum for employment in the Gulf and KSA.

MCI,
I know it's not easy, I am aware that IF I managed to get in, the package offered wouldn't be so great. I just want to get my foot in the door. I put in an application earlier on today for a B.A. in Education and Training with Greenwich University in London. It is offered campus based and by distance learning.
I am very determined and will do whatever I physically can to get in. I am fully aware that me being a Muslim won't make a difference and I most definately don't see that as an advantage. However, I can speak Classical Arabic and Saudi Dialect quite well.
MCI, thanks for your comments. I can forward you an e-mail from the institution with regards the MA to show you it's not dubious.
I appreciate your comments MCI and would appreciate if you can advise me on whether the B.A. I have chosen to go for would be appropriate and if you are aware whether B.A. Degrees earnt via distance learning are accepted in the Kingdom.
Many thanks
Mohammad

Without a degree you will not get a job teaching in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. That rule applies to muslims and non-muslims. |

I don't see why everyone needs to mention ''Muslim'' in this thread, I did not at any one time indicate that I have a chance of getting a teaching job in KSA simply because I am a Muslim. |

Many people expect special treatment becasue of their profession of Islam. They need to be reminded that it does not work that way. The reverse is often the case |

This may be the case with people that you have come across. I can assure you that it never has crossed my mind that, it will be easier for me simply because I am a Muslim. I most certainly don't expect special treatment for being a Muslim, it's not Islamic adhab to be big headed. |

Mr. Muhammad,
I appreciate the way you never let your hope die, even in the face of the stumbling-blocks that could easily put you off. Hard work and sincere efforts never go unrewarded. Keep trying and leave the rest to God. One thing, I must suggest, is that you should think over having a DELTA or CELTA as a teaching qualification. To gain a CELTA/DELTA qualification is less time-consuming, comparatively cheaper than other degree programs and more authenticated option you can go for (I believe).
By the way, what nationality are you? In fact, your native English speaker status can help you get a job in MidEast but that too after you have gained at least the basic teaching qualification.
Wishing you best of luck in your search for a teaching job in MidEast
