Hi guys,
Need some advice. I'm looking for a good place to pick up both English reading books for me (fiction is preferable) and some teaching resources for class. Are there any good used book stores or teaching stores you could recommend in Nagoya? Any hostels that do trades? I'd appreciate the help, gotta have stuff to read. |

Can't tell you any used ones worth mentioning, but for new stuff Maruzen in Sakae tends to be the place most order from(including eikaiwas). A couple of times a year as well Maruzen clears old inventory of English books with a big cheap sell off at low(for Japan) prices. Go by and ask them where and when.
Now if you're looking to pick up teaching books there's two other ways you can go about it. Keep an eye out for Oxford University Press doing seminars in Nagoya. In the past its been the fall. Many publishers will show up at this event and they give away free "sample" copies of some of their stuff.
As well you can contact OUP, CUP, etc and ask for a catalogue and then ask for sample copies of books.
Another way to possibly pick up books used would be checking out posts of sayonara sales at the International Center. Less likely but possible from time to time. |

Don't forget tehat the Nagoya International centre also has recycling Bazaars where you can pick up plenty of cheap books. Just keep an eye out for when.
Sanseido, in Meieki (11th floor), while not cheap also stocks a good range of books, fiction, teaching etc.
Loft in Sakae has a reasonable selection of boutique books, photography etc.
Looking for Magazines? Head to Tower records in Kintetsu Passe's Tower Records.
Finally, after cheap (even free?) teaching materials? Write to any of the EFL publishing companies for free samples. A good way to get started, to browse and get intimate with different series, styles and levels before setting out on a shopping spree!
Hope that helps. |
