|

I am currently considering a position in Poland. The employer emailed me to ask what my financial expectations were for teaching English there. I am a new teacher and this will be my first job. Does any one know what I should ask for as an entry level teacher with some, but minimum teaching experience and a TEFL Certificate/University Degree? |

No an easy question, really. I am a Pole, but I've worked with many foreign teachers. At a small private school you should be getting 30 - 35 zlotys per teaching hour. At a bigger one, 5 - 10 zlotys more. At a private university, usually above 40. But much depends on the location - the bigger the city, the bigger your pay rate.
I suggest you ask your employer directly what is the pay rate at this school and what are the costs of accomodation, food, entertainment etc. Then do the math and decide if it's enough for you. |

After a recent heavy round of interviews, the going rate in Warsaw seems to be 50zl gross in any decent school (ones that give you written contracts and wages on time) - thats for a native speaker with a BA Hons, TEFL cert and one year's experience.
The smaller private school I started with paid 3000zl a month, plus my transport card and rent (which worked out at about 42zl an hour for the number of hours I taught) |

Its up to the employer to make an offer not to ask you what he should offer for your services. I know it may not be easy but I wouldnt answer the question. I'd field it back to him - its his part of the deal for the employer to have a job package - that includes things like hours, methodology, requirements AND SALARY. Its a con to ask you what you would accept and as you haven't taught in Poland before its quite easy to say you have no experience to base an answer and that your expectations would be to get the going rate. |
