This is about an issue fast creeping up on me---namely homelessness. My term will end in a couple of weeks and the only other jobs are for Sept. With SARS the summer sessions have all been cancelled or so I have been told. So what to do in the interim 8 or so weeks. You cant rent cheap rooms as far as I know. I suppose I can rob the bank and go home for the summer but I dont want to do that. (Not sure if I even could.) And I don't want to work illegally here if I can help it. (At least not full time.)
I suppose some solution will be found once the employer is in place. PS The floodgates might be opening for hiring I got a raft of e-mails today. But of course I need one that accepts pets. |

G-Spot! I'll take the turtle. We've got plenty of boiling...err...fresh water. I'm making some inquiries on your behalf about 8 weeks' work. A guy who works in a noodle shop has expressed some interest. He says he's a friend of yours. |

For 8 weeks, I believe many summer sessions are not cancelled. Look around. You're bound to find something in your area. Or if you choose to try, do some freelance work and get that place on your own. Ask some other local foreigners. They may know.
Are you working for a private school or a university? If it's university work, some schools are always trying to pimp people off in one aspect or another. Work out a deal to keep your current residence. Maybe with some slick negotiating you can pull some hours and money that way and still keep the housing. |

Whenever summer arrives, it is either time of the evil of too many choices. Or a time of no choice at all.
Here in Guangdong, kindergartens are busy right through the whole year, including the summer recess. In my case, this means I am going to have no holiday. On top of this, a new private business has started up, and its owner has chosen me as a partner. Besides this, I could choose from among two kindergartens that pay 8000 RMB a month. So, one of them is going to be without an expat teacher through the next few weeks...
Actually, I am craving nothing more than my first, first real summer holiday in CHINA! |

I am hesitant to post this since I had to re-boot the computer after the last one. What a piece of junk it;s amazing I have posted so much. Anyway I want to go to Shenzhen general area or Beijing general area. Anywhere but Harbin you might say. Too far and too cold.
Skyline they are pimping me out for a week but it wont last all summer. And I am a good free-lancer.
OK I hit submit and pray..... |

Hola Turtle man,
I love your avatar. If you want a summer job, look at www.chinatefl.com. Click Summer 2003. The China Tefl company is having a summer school in Hangzhou and surrounding areas in the province. The jobs start July 15th-August 15th.
The pay is 6000 RMB for 7/14 to 8/10, includes three hots and a cot and visiting the cool laid back city of Hangzhou, a place of green scenery and beautiful Oriental women. (Warning, it does get hotter than hell here.) Hey, it is something to do, it is a "toss off" job, I know a good bar near the campus, and you will have a roof over your head until September.
E-mail me if you want, and we can go from there.

For what it is worth -
Next time sign a 6th month contract starting in September.
Then in March sign a one year contract. Everyone should insist on March to March contracts.
Then you have pay and housing during the summer and Spring vacations.
I tried this and it works very well. |
