I've been offered a great opportunity to work in schools in Malaysia with Cfbt. I'll be going over with my partner who is just recently qualified and will be going over with just a summer's worth of experience (he is also an FA qualified football coach, I've been teaching for 5 years.) My partner is very worried that he will not be able to get work once we are over there. I'm trying to calm his fears. My understanding is that once we are over there he will be able to find work, not as well paid as myself, but the work is out there.

Any info/advice on the best way to go about getting work once we're over there or even from here would be greatly appreciated. Jobs in Malaysia don't seem to come up very often on the web. I have been given the choice of teaching in Sarawak, Sabah or the west coast of pennisula Malaysia but haven't decided yet.

Any info would be great. I'm just keen to get us out there and worried that my partner won't want to go if he thinks he's going to be sitting around on his rear end.

You have to be married (not just partnered) to get the residence visa, and be a resident to get a work permit (although rules are not really enforced and a LOT is done off the books).

I would avoid CfBT as they are not organized and the work is time-killing government stuff that is very unfulfilling. The administration does not give you enough information about your post and once at post the local administration is quite hostile to �outside intervention.�

I would recommend Sabah or Sarawak over the west coast.

I disagree with the above.
I live and work in KL, as a teaching coordinator. I came here a year ago, with my partner, and got a work permit (2 years renewable) My partner was issued with a 2 year extendable social pass by immigration. Since then we have married here. She has also now got a work permit.
Lots is written about Malaysia, work permits etc. You just need to be very patient. Things do get done.
