Hi Posters,

Some research questions here that some of you might be able to answer, either anecdotally or, if there is any statistical information out there, it would be great if you could point me to it.

How many times is a teacher is likely to get their contract renewed at a university with decent working conditions? Is there an upper age limit that employers take into consideration when renewing contracts? What universities are likely to renew contracts without subsequent raises in pay? And finally, what universities are most likely to not renew contracts (for any reason)?

Any and responses most welcome.

Cheers, Very Happy

Rickit

Rickit,

I found that most teachers renewed if and when they wanted to. There are still teachers at SQU that I worked with in the 80's... and they are in their 60's now. Same with people that I worked with at HCT. Assuming that things go well... one does one's job and plays the game and doesn't do anything dumb, Rolling Eyes contracts are renewed. It has seemed to me that probably the average is 2 or maybe 3 contracts?

Normally one gets raises with each contract until one hits the wage ceiling for your experience. Then you have to wait for general raises in the scale which may or may not arrive.

As to which universities do or don't do whatever... I don't know how to answer that one in any general way. I wouldn't worry with the places that we have discussed up to this point.

Thanks VS, you're a gem as always.

I have been reading some dire stories over on the Job Info Board where there are rumblings about contract renewal in certain schools. I wondered of there had ever been any sort of formal study on this, as well. It seems worth researching given the number of teachers out there who seem to be suffering....

It's very good to know that I'm on the right track, however, with the schools we've been discussing.

Cheers, Mite! And talk to you soon,
