How the heck is someone supposed to vote YES or NO? Your poll only allows DON'T KNOW and DON'T CARE.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it would seem like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Don't know = ignorance
Don't care = apathy

Has anyone actually voted?

Predictably, chaos ensued when the really poor attempt at humor went over the average poster's head.

I am convinced that the quality of English teaching has been suffering for a long while.
Looking at it from today's standpoint it is difficult since we do not know, or cannot remember, how the situation presented itself 10 or 20 years ago.

But compare it to the results in teaching other languages as foreign or second tongues, and you can hardly avoid noticing a discrepancy.

For instance here in China, I occasionally deal with students who study French, Italian or German - routinely as their 2nd foreign tongue.
Those who do not deserve a pass grade won't make it in the job market since bad French or bad German inevitably leads to unwelcome consequences for the pretender/impostor. The majority speak those foreign tongues very well, and as a sideline I may note their English, or first foreign language, is above average too.

You know what? They do not have the benefit of a "coin francais" or a "Deutsche Sprachecke" (French and German equivalents of Engllish
corner).

Okay, I guess it's not clear for everyone so I will say it: this thread was a joke. It was an attempt at humor.
