Dear Janis,
Kaohsiung is a pretty big city with rather limited public transportation.
Do you know what area of Kaohsiung would be most suitable for you?
Just to make my point...it would take at least 30 minutes (on a scooter) to get from the Sun-Yat Sen University area to the Cheng-ching Lake area.
In the past, lots of foreigners enjoyed living around the Cultural Center due to its location in the middle of the city. It seems that now more foreign English teachers live on the Northern side of Taiwan where lots of newer language schools have opened.
Best wishes.
Taylor

The first thing you need to do is find a way to overcome the language barrier.
Ask a Chinese friend or student to help you.
Go to the areas close to a University and look for bulletin boards with lots of red papers posted there. 99% of these are for places to rent just write down the numbers and call. Many times they will put you on the phone with one kid who speaks English.
Good luck!

thanks for all your messages.
i have tried tealit. i check it daily.
i currently live near the cultural centre and would like to stay in the same area. i work in shao gun so i need to live near johngshan road to be close enough.
i haven't tried looking at universities. that is a good idea.
we actually saw one today that is really nice but a little pricy. it is through an agent. i'm wondering if he's jacking up the price. do you know if there's a way to find out? do buildings have cards for the landlord?
thanks again. |

Kaoshiung? are you asking taiwanese people to help you? There are way more appartments there than there are people to rent them. Rent is incredibly cheap. I am surprised you can't find anything |
