I wonder if someone can help me....
I've read hundreds of these posts, but still don't seem to know what I'm doing. I'm looking at Korea or Taiwan in early December...but as the term starts soon, it seems like there would be no point in applying for jobs until sometime after that. I would assume that no school would be looking for teachers that can start that late, until the time came and the vacancy was still there?
Also, am only wanting to work for 6 months - I know that contracts are usually for a year, but does this still apply if you start mid-way through the term?
I hate not being able to get organised! I also don't want to end up with a really expensive airfare because I've booked too late, as I know I wouldn't be reimbursed if staying for such a short time.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Two things:
1) Some schools run year-long and hire at any point. Just look until you find some place.
2) You may want to be a bit more flexible and patient. Maybe relax a little. Why can't you do a year? Six month contracts are certainly out there, but if you're willing to commit to a year, you'll have more choices. Also, you are almost BEGGING to have problems if you try to get exceptions and changes to the contract. Just apply for gigs, take what comes up, and then play ball with the least amount of trouble you can possibly cause the employer, and that employer will be very grateful, I can almost guarentee it. What's an extra six months? I mean, if you can do six months, why not a year?? |
