I've never heard of any German language school demanding a certain level of German for their ENGLISH teachers, and I've done a lot of job hunting! And how would you know which are the 'good' jobs just from the adverts??

You probably do not need it for the teaching but to live in Germany you require some German. Otherwise your life will be 10 times as difficult. Do you really expect that the authorities in Germany (registration, tax, insurance, etc) will deal with you in English ?

When you want to rent a place to live, do you fondly imagine that the landlord will talk to you in English and sign your lease in English ? English is more widely spoken now than in the past but it is still a German-speaking country !

By "good" jobs I meant those that offered full-time contracts, or free-lance positions that paid more than 15 euros/hour. Every time I applied for one of those jobs in Germany I was asked about my German ability.

If you choose to live in Germany without speaking German, you are condemning yourself to a life like that of immigrants in the US who have no English.

Maybe that will be good for you and open your eyes to the "immigrant experience'. However I doubt very much whether you will enjoy it.
