Hi! I just sent my resume out to a few different schools today and just got a reply back from this one. This was part of the reply:
"I have decided to hire both of you as our English teachers next semester, beginning about Feb. 2006.
Please email me when necessary."...
Just seems a little strange to me that I got a reply so quickly and he decided to hire my fiance and I without even talking to us or anything.. Any thoughts or experience with this school?
Thanks!! |

I am aware of a negative report about this school dating back to September 2003. It detailed lack of privacy issues and the fact that the school was deducting 20% tax non-refundable. You might want to check that out first.

This could be due to the fact that the school is desperate for a teacher, but then could be a valid interest in the fact that they can get two teachers in one go. There is a big benefit to many schools in scoring couples.
Additionally, you should realize that the email you received may not actually mean what it seems to mean. Of course we read it as being a final acceptance and that the job is waiting for you. That could be the case. Alternatively, it could mean that you are on a 'short list' that the school would like to interview.
If you feel comfortable with the deal so far then there will be no harm in getting more information from the school.
Most importantly of all, ask to be put in contact with past or present foreign teachers. |

I've been sending out my CV at the moment, and had similar experiences. Of the three jobs that I pursued, 1 wanted to have a phone interview (I didn't get that job) but the other two have offered me a job basically on receipt of my CV.
Thinking about it, a couple of others that I didn't pursue may well have given me a position without an interview.
It is strange to me, but perhaps demand for teachers is high enough to have to do that. I do partly suspect as well that there might be a reluctance to interview if the organisation has nobody in your home country, and nobody with good enough English to interview you over the phone.
Also, often for teaching the best interview is to watch the applicants teaching a lesson. Which would be impractical.
I think that the last couple of points that Clark makes are important. Even if they are happy to take you as they see you, you can still find out more about them. |

Let me elaborate on that. Pretty well all of the Cinese public schools are now finished for the term and are off on summer vacation. The new school year begins in a month and considering the fact that it wil ltake about a month to get your work permit arranged, schools are frantically tryng to get their FT positions filled before the new school year begins. So they will pretty well "accept" anyone they think will be qualified to get the work permit. Now, just because they say that you have been accepted does NOT necessarily mean that you have the job! Until such time you have the documents needed to get your Z visa, I wouldn't consider yourself having a job yet. |

I'll take your advice and just make sure I get more information. I do realize that, until I get that acceptance letter and Z visa, I do not technically have a job with them. Thanks again! |
