My school wants me to get a new ARC for the last remaining 3 weeks of my contract. My current ARC shows me working for some other Buxiban.
My question is will this affect the amount I will be claiming back when my contract expires?
Also I will be asking a good friend ( Taiwanese ) to collect the refund for me next year. Will it be chq, can It be cashed abroad ( back home in Canada ) will it have to be put into a Taiwanese account then transfered back home.
Thanks |

You shouldn't need to get a new ARC, you should be able to just add the new schools details to the back of your ARC. That is the general process for doing this. In order to this however the school will need to secure a work permit for you, which you should have anyway if you want to be legal in the position you are currently in.

I can't see how it would. Your tax liability is based upon how much you earn, not where you earn it.

The bank deposit transfer would be the best option I would think. The acceptibility of the cheque would likely depend upon your bank back home more than the local banks that issue the cheques. |

I faced the tax office in Taipei with a similar problem a couple of years back. The school I had worked for repeatedly promised my tax certificate but never gave me this. I gave them many opportunities, but all to no avail.
In the end I gathered all of my documents together and attempted to process my tax without the certificates. This proved to be impossible, but at least it gave me the opportunity to raise the issue with tax department. The girl on the desk attempted to resolve the matter but the school gave her the same run around. Eventually, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was invited into the back office. She looked through my paperwork, called the school, the school lied to her, I proved their lie with the documentation I had, she got pissed off at the school, the school provided the certificates within two days along with the payment of the outstanding taxes and a fine four times the amount of outstanding taxes. Problem resolved.
If your school doesn't play ball on the tax certificate issue then I agree with Aristotle in that you should make a complaint to the tax office. Collect all of your paperwork and go and see the tax office. They are actually quite helpful, and they are one government department that can cause a good deal of greif for schools. |
