Hi. I'm looking to take CELTA/TEFL course in China prior to going to Japan in February to find a job teaching English (preferably adults). The primary reason I want to take a course is to improve my abilities as a teacher. Ideally, taking the course would enable me to get a job with better working conditions and maybe some more money--but I'm not necessarily going to expect either of those things.
My question: Considering just the quality of instruction (disregarding price), which CELTA/TEFL program in a Mandarin-speaking area of China is the best?
I've been looking into the Boland School and Language Link's CELTA program. I'd prefer the CELTA, but the course I'd take would end several months before taking myself to Japan and looking for a job--anyone know how much of a drawback this would be? I could take a Boland School course that'd end just a couple weeks before leaving for Japan.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated! |

I looked at CELTA in China becuase I believe it is generally more widely accepted. But there were few courses on offer, particularly at the time I wanted.
After a fair bit of research I did the Boland course and found it to be rigorous and worthwhile.
Speaking to colleagues who have done CELTA I believe the courses are very similar in content.
I cannot attest to the relative value of the two courses to employers in Japan. |
