Things appear to be a bit quiet these days. So how about a summer topic.
Where would you recommend to; someone new to Turkey, to go for some SUN, SAND and SEA.

My fave is Gumusluk on the Bodrum peninsula
But I have a soft spot for the Northern Agean- Akcay, altinoluk, ayvalik, etc. Basically anywhere around the Bay of Edremit |

Yeah, my wife and I like it down here in Altınoluk ... and it's where we'll be until mid-August. Seeing as few yabancis come here, they play mostly Turkish pop music in the bars ... and here in the internet cafe :-(( On the plus side though, being popular with the Turkish (and 'Almancı') tourists means that things are much cheaper here than in Bodrum, Modrum, ... |

There are still too many places that I haven't been, but when I was at Oludeniz, I loved it. I have heard great things about Patara but have never been there. While in Istanbul for the summer I used to regularly head out to Silvri for a day on the beach. Good day trip.
Summer in Antalya, when I visited in August, was far too hot. I went to Cappadocia in the summer, no beach, but it was not nearly as hot as I had thought it would be. I enjoyed it quite a bit. |

Dalyan has a bit of everything - beach, sea, river trip (a la African Queen), Turkish town (that understands tourists and has bars etc but retains its Turkishness), mud baths (for the real touroids), Caunus (ancient city - history/archaeology), lake, adjacent airport (Dalaman), Lycian tombs - for those who only want to capture a picturesque view of ancient civilizations through a camera lens without leaving the safe confines of their hotel bedroom!
What could be better?
I also recommend Kekova (Kale Koy - a boat ride from Kas, stay over night and do the other half of the "daily" boat trip the next day to really chill).
Why Kemer? nothing attracts me. Phaselis... Olympos.... OK
Further afield: Mardin - amazing architecture. |

Anywhere cool! Where is the coollest place in Turkey in the summer? I just got back from anakkale, and it was quite nice there along the Aegean... lovely breezes blowing at Gallipoli... but perhaps that was just a coincidence of the weather. |

Canakkale is always breezy. Great in the summer and awful in the winter! |

O.k here's the choice 7 days in an all inclusive 5 star resort like W.O.W,
(stayed last year for 8 days in W.O.W Antalya) or 10 days moving around to different places staying at small B.B 2-3 star hotels. Or 20 days doing the classical Backpack thing.
I'm too old to do the back pack thing any more , I'm into my big kick a** resort with all the works it's nice to live like a lord for a week or so.
So whats everyone into |

Hmmm...... a combination of a few of the above.
I am not old, but I have done the back pack thing quite a bit. I still carry the pack, but I prefer to find one great place and one great hotel and linger on for a while. I love it when people ask, are you STILL here?
Turkey the best place to do this because the people are pretty social. They invite you for tea and after a while forget about selling you a carpet. Then they start giving you the "Turkish" rates at the internet cafe, and I feel at home! |

Somewhere small and quiet, a little bit of effort to get there but once there... chill. Those big 5 star resorts are just to busy with too many kids running around. Not exactly peaceful. |

Yea, but if you pick one bar and get on well with barman and slip him a privet tip of about 30 Y.T.L he keeps the good stuff flowing all week long |

good plan, but it's better sitting on a quiet beach with a good book, and the barman running between your glass and the bar. |

OK, so you're too old to back pack. Go for the tour and stay in pansiyons. You had a wonderlust once, you can continue to do it in relative comfort. Two or three nights in each place allows your body to catch up. You can travel by bus overnight to economise or get a sleeper on the mavi train for selected routes - cover the ground, have air conditioned accommodation and experience real life. Teachers get discount too.
Last year I joined my brother and his teenage kids (they have a Turkish mother) in one of the luxury all in places in Fethiye. They got a "cheap" package deal from Uk, I spent one month's rent each night! It was worth it to spend time with them but...... |

i'm more of a relax by the water type person myself. in may, i went to bodrum on a cheap university student trip with my turkish girlfriends. it was in a holiday maker resort and all inclusive as well. so handy to have everything in one area. it was great actually. but mostly i think i would just like to have a low key holiday where i am living comfortably but not too cheaply. i don't need 5star all the time, but sometimes its pretty nice. |
