Hi all!

I have a broken wrist and forearm (2 avg size fractures). I need to see a doctor while in Tainan to remove the cast and get one last xray to make sure all is fine with my scaphoid fracture (wrist). Was wondering if it is easy to find an English doctor in Tainan (where I plan on living) and what the prices usually are.

By the way...learning to use chopsticks with the left hand isn't easy when you've been using your right all along (among other things ;]).

Thanks a lot.

Jonathan

There will probably be doctors who speak English at any hospital you go to, at least at a high enough level to explain such fractures. A good deal of the medical education done here is done in English.

Not sure about the prices, however.

About finding an 'English doctor' I can't say. Probably not.

I wipe my arse with my left anyways and I find it easier to keep the tooth brush still and move my head. The hardest thing is beating the meat. Using your left is a whole new ball game!

Taiwan has a very good socialized medical system that allows for very low cost medical care.
Unfortunately that also means low quality medical care that bears a stronger resemblance to an assembly line than a doctors office.
You will also notice after a few trips to the doctors office that the tend to prescribe the same medicines for different illnesses.
That is because local pharmaceutical companies "influence" the medicines local doctors prescribe.
On Taiwan you really do get what you pay for.

Please read this.

Good luck!

Also, if you are getting medication from the doctor, ask that they write out what it is that they are giving you. A few years back I had bronchitis (a common affliction in Kaohsiung) and while being examined, the doctor asked what allergies I had. I told him I had an allergic reaction to penicillin when I was young that almost killed me. About 1/2 hour of taking the pills that he had prescribed me I became incredibly ill, zero energy, severely confused, flushed and sweating profusely, resulting in me missing one week of work. My wife went back to the clinic and got a list of the medications the doctor gave me. The first med on the list was Ampicillin.
