Hello! I have recently arrived in Kaohsiung and I am wondering about a good place to teach part-time. I am living near san dou 3rd road and Fusing 2nd road. I have seen a Hess not too far away, but i would welcome feedback before i approach. I will enroll in Shi Da for Mandarin classes in September and receive my visa through them. I would like to work in the afternoon and avoid kindergartens. Are there any schools that employ people to teach just 3 hours a night? I have a degree in English, two years teaching in a language school to Chinese and Japanese students in Los Angeles, and two years public high school English. Can anyone offer suggestions? |

Dear Tenn,
Could you confirm again whether you wish to work in the afternoons or at nights? (Your original post mentioned both).
I've lived in Kaohsiung about 8 years...and my parents-in-law live near the area you mentioned.
Basically, if you have time in the afternoons, then you might need to teach first and second graders. Some of these classes can be really fun. They can be conducted competely in English, and the kids often make remarkable progress. If you do have time at night, then you might be able to focus on adults.
Please post again or send me a private message (if you prefer).
Sincerely,
Taylor |

i would prefer evenings and adults but i really do like children. my problem is i'm too playful with them and may not do actual teaching. adults would be better because i could make friends. however, i don't think i would be picky about ages. i am not in a hurry. next week i will go to hualien and then tour china for two weeks. after that, i will begin mandarin classes. then, i should be ready to work a little. my main interest is getting out of the house and socializing. i am in comfortable circumstances and can afford to be choosy about my work environment.
i appreciate your response. if you are in the area i could by you a beer or two. thanx |
