"PAYS 7,000 TO 12,000 RMB / month:
I was told by two teachers who worked in China, that jobs when found from inside China, would pay about twice as much, as when the recruiters or schools offer them over the net.
So, early last spring I went to China. I rented an apartment in the major South-Eastern city - Guangzhou (with 10 mil. people). And I found the same fact as the two teachers had told me.
The lowest paying jobs where the good universities' jobs. They pay 7,000 to 8,000 RMB / Yuan a month, plus a free furnished apartment worth 2000 RMB a month.
Other schools, specially the private ones, were offering the same type of apartments, but paying higher salaries. I found a job paying 12,000 RMB - equivalent of USD 1,500 a month uptown Guangzhou."
I have no degree (although fake one are available in Bangkok - I'd rather not use that technique). I have several eyars experience in ESL teaching. China appeals to me for decent wages versus cost of living, access to TCM/qigong, but visas and contracts sounds like a hassle. I am used to teaching in SE Asia where most persons teach illegally and are not beholden to one employer. The idea of signing a contract sounds scary - it puts the employer in a much greater position of power that is not the case when one is a freelancer or working part-time at multiple schools.
My gut impulse is to jump on a plane to Hong Kong, apply for the longest tourist visa I can get, and then explore Southern China to see where the pay is decent and I could tolerate living. |

It is polsters like this one (the one that posted his Guangzhou job seeking experience) that I have a big beef with!
He is not qualified though he regards himselfs as sufficiently knowledgeable to impart advice that jobs pay a "minimum of 7000 to 12000" - obviously he can't make that amount of income back home!
He doesn't mention athing that matters to prospective teachers - what kind of students you are faced with, what kinds of subjects you will be teaching and what is required of any FT to be a FOREIGN TEACHER with a legal status.
Where is Alin BUur when one needs him? |
