My Argentine friend is trying to move out of his parents' house. Anyone know any publications and/or websites for fellow Argentines looking for roommates? He needs something cheap like 200-300 pesos/month. He's not looking for the kind of place an EFL teacher or tourist would want.

I'm sorry this has nothing to do with what you asked but I just want to say that your niece/nephew is gorgeous, the cutest baby I've seen in a while. Congratulations on being an uncle!

Ok I object to the statement!!
Believe me most EFL teachers can't afford these stupid rents that they charge gringos here on what they earn. But unfortunately the system here that makes it so hard for those EFL teachers like me who came to Buenos Aires with no savings (because I came straight from another efl teaching job where it was impossible to save!). I am having to work like a dog now because I know that when December to March come and all the students take 3 months holiday I won't have any savings to fall back on to pay my expensive gringo rent and will be living virtually on bread and water!!!.
Unfortunately there are alot of Americans and Europeans that set up home here a while for whatever reason and rave about how incredibly cheap everything is here but the reality is they are not earning pesos and they are happy to pay those prices cos whatever they are they paying is going to be lower than what they pay back at home, thus setting a precedent that means the prices go up for the rest of us. But , of course, you will find that out for yourself when you have to do the same thing.
If you boyfriend finds a good deal Id love to know how and where he got it from cos Im looking for something like that!!
Thanks alot for letting me get that off my chest (nothing personal of course Johnny!).

there are some listings on craigslist.com (buenos aires) for roomshares that are from natives. there are also some cheapish roomshare offers (sometimes) on yesba.org

i'm still looking for something to work out (cheapish) and i can't keep paying DOLLARS for rent when i'm earning (and have yet to see any) PESOS!

Yeh! What is up with that Yesba nonsense! I could've sworn just a few months ago when I signed up for the newsletter rents were hovering around the mid-200s...now they're regularly in the 5's and 6's.

YESBA is absolute nonsense. The rent on their offers is outrageous! I can only roll my eyes when I see apartments in Buenos Aires that cost more than apartments here in Nashville.

Has anyone besides me come across those classifieds for furnished apartments with 1 bedroom for almost $2,000/month?! I'm sorry, but no amount of "luxury" in Buenos Aires can be worth $2,000/month. This isn't Manhattan or Tokyo. Sheesh!

I've looked at Craigslist, but most of the offers also seem to be rip-offs. Do Argentine 20-year old not rent houses and live 3-4 to a house to save money? How can my boyfriend find something like this? He's lazy and barely looking (said he can't find anything), and to that I say "Nonsense!" So, I am trying to look for him. Haha. Seriously, though, there has to be some place in Gran Buenos Aires where there are cheap apartments that 2-3 can share, right?

We're definitely not going to live together, but I also don't feel like living in Quilmes, or commuting from Palermo to Quilmes all the time. Surely, somebody knows of some university newspaper with roommate classifieds? Anyone? Very Happy

P.S. Thanks for saying my neice was cute, Nathalie Smile

Well for reason that are now obvoius to you I think youll find that no, most 20 year old university students cant afford to leave home and share flats with friend, unfortunately this is not the US or Europe!! Most young people live with their parents till the get married or till they are 30 minimum!
