I am looking for a nice quiet hotel or hostel for a cheap price to use to study for the ECC Celta course in Bangkok. I assume there is only one course location in Bangkok. Can anyone provide me info about such locations that are close to the course location so that I don't have to make much effort every day getting to and leaving class everyday? Thanks for your feedback.

Hi menace

I've booked the Reno Hotel, for the October course. It looks very close to ECC and is recommended on the ECC website. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have its own website. As long as it's (relatively) quiet with a good breakfast and a place to work I'll be happy.

Good luck

Brewster

my girlfriend and i just completed our celtas at ECC. we stayed at the white lodge and would highly recommend it. it's on soi kasem san 1 and, at a bt10,800 monthly rate (this was a double - not sure about a single), it's by far the cheapest nearby place to stay. mention you'll be an ecc student and they'll hook you up with the monthly rate and a desk.

did the ecc celta a couple of years back.

most were under the impression they needed to stay near ecc and many stayed on the soi off national stadium. some though stayed in other areas such as victory monument (on the sky train route) and in talking to them they didnt feel any inconvience in not being down the street from ecc.

the two hotels on the soi off of nat'l stadium; i think the first is White and the second i dont recall the name. have stayed in both multiple times.

for the celta i looked at both and chose white. smaller and less service but overall a better choice i thought at the time of choosing. White is not very big and maybe 4 floors of rooms. the rooms at the back have windows on 3 sides and look out over a lot of green. very nice. the service in the hotel in minimal, but then what service do you really need? the third week of celta another student who was staying at the 2nd hotel came over to my room to do some work together. when he walked into the room he immediately noted that there was a big difference. white didnt have a refrig or a tv (you dont need either and for the celta it is prob better to not have a tv in your room).

the second hotel 100m down the soi had very small rooms and no windows (for the rooms at a reasonable rate) and it seemed like a prison cell more than a hotel room. the service here was great and one gets a good impression and made to feel at home. underlying that is that they are out to get every cent out of you that they can. even their beer was higher enough that everyone walked down to the end of the soi to buy beer instead of buying it right in the lobby. i had a bag in their storeage room for a week (i was told, "no charge to store bags for customers") and when i later picked it up they gave me a bill i almost choked on. in addition, across the street there is an ice crushing business that starts at 6am and crushes the ice right their, curb side. even being a few rooms back from the street i heard the crushing machine daily.

with the above said, a huge majority stayed at the second hotel. why, i am not sure. they were paying a higher rate than White was charging at the time.

other options? i dont believe one has to necessarily stay near ECC. in addition, i have lived in only the 3000B type of apts (need to do a little hunting near a sky train station) since living in bkk. i personally like them and they give me more space than i use, though they are admittedly small. not for everyone but they have worked for me. quite a savings over a hotel and for the rainy or cool season i dont need air conditioning.

PM me if you like.

p.s.

have new floppy disks and when using the ecc computers back up everything and with mutliple disks. when i was there the computers were eating the saved files on the disks regularly. during the celta this can be a major catastrophe for you. forgo the ecc computers and walk over to MBK and use the computers on the top floor. even with that you would probably use the ecc computers before a class and could lose the file in the floppy.
