I'm coming to China for 10 days to meet some prospective employers. I've never brought my laptop with me before, but I'd like to do so this time. Will I have any difficulty bringing it in through Shanghai International, or will I have to hand it over until I leave? I couldn't find mush about it on the internet, except one man who brought his laptop to China, where he was staying a year, and the customs people were extorting him to get it back. I'm clearly not there for a long time and I do plan to take it with me when I go. I'm confused. Thanks in advance. |

Hi Billy,
No problem. I'm typing away on the second laptop I've taken into China. Unless you're a well-known journalist or something, the authorities won't care.
Because I was going to do this, I read a thread similar to this one ages ago, and read a series of people saying just this: no problem. Laptops are such common business tools now authorities can't possibly keep track of such things.
At the same time, I would be careful not to take with you your collection of hardcore porn and religious pamphlet files... just in case.
Good luck! |
