of course that doesnt include booze... and 5 million is the money spent what about what is goin to be spent. When i was a kid we used to live in Laleli which was green and full of families ,kids playing on the street no fights or hassles then the arabs started to rent the flats they paid the whole year's rent but stayed for 4 months and spent a lot of money. i dont hate arabs but cant say that i love them. DMB there is a saying about arabs and spending money.
"Arap yougurdu bol bulunca taşşaklarına da surermis."( sorry for the word "taşşak")

is it clear or do you need translation.Smile

dmb, this is for u...

"Arap yoğurdu bol bulursa taşşaklarına srermiş. "
"If an Arab finds more yoghurt than he can eat, he applies it to his balls."

not a very good translation but will tell how Arabs spend their money and if they find yoghurt like this they can waste it in unnecessary ways.

say one word and i ll tell you a Tuurkish saying about it. Believe me i am very good at it . Smile

Well I'm part Arab and I certainly wasted lots of money on booze at my wedding Very Happy
But I certainly don't rub any left-over yoghurt on my balls.
That might be because I don't have any.
Or it might be because I have two Scottish great-grandparents and therefore would be far too tight to treat good yoghurt so wastefully.
More likely though it's because like most stereotypes, it's simply untrue.
It seems to me the main purpose of stereotypes is to make one group of people feel superior to another.

I can honestly say that in all the Scottish weddings I have been to I have never seen yoghurt at them. hmm, I wonder why we havent tried to deep fry yoghurt yet, probably too healthy.

yoghurt and scotch Confused
Thanks, whynotme - I know you meant no harm.
youknowme - can't take those generalisations!
Yup, I'm still in the south Cool
Although, I'm working more than playing at the moment.
What do those two sayings mean?
I'll tell them to my husband when he next laughs at my pronounciation - even if it's perfectly correct pronouncation of an arabic word that turkish has appropriated.
Excuse me whilst I duck. Laughing

may i offer some? and i mean no disrespect to ImanH. just trying to show how racist and ignorant turks can be sometimes. you know, these sayings are examples of turkish orientalism. in order to place turkey on a western axis, an eastern culture's so-called orientalism is established and looked down on. same thing as western orientalism.

anladiysam arap olayim
ayıdan post araptan dost olmaz
icecen sarabi sikecen arabi
kahve icersen arap olursun
ne samin sekeri ne arabin yuzu
arap gibi yemek
arabin derdi kirmizi pabuc

and...golge oyunu (karagoz-hacivat) has two types of arab characters: ak arap and kara arap...
