they have 3 schools in Istanbul, at the moment they are doing seminars and preperation for the new term. A young teacher who worked for us has signed a contract with them. She says it is fine till now and the pay is not bad. ( for a college) |

I don't know if it's the same school as the one I went out to in Akbaba outside Beykoz or not; but if it is, then as 31 said, it is owned by the E.T Lordship.
Anyway I was offered a job by one of their director. Everything was fine and they picked me up and droped me off, they really wined and dinned me. I thought yes these people know how to take care of theirstaff:!:
Then we got to $$$$ money = joke= less than 1300 US and no privet insurance.
I don't know if its any better now, but if your willing to work in a school, then they should hold out for alot more than that. |

Thanks for the replies. I was curious about them. I already have my contract for the next year, but wanted to know something about them before I tell them it will not be me working for them this year. I will go and look at the place once I get over there. I hope the pay is not that low. I am making more than that.
This does bring up another question. Do the schools pay you more for in Turkey experience? Can I expect a little more next year? I do mean that seriously. In Thailand the average salary increase per year came out to about 75 US dollars.
Thanks |

ZIA! , when I worked a few years ago at a private uni, it was amusing to me that as a recent graduate / CTEFLer I was getting the same salary as some very qualified and experienced teachers. On the other hand, my next job at an erstwhile reputable language school saw a pay scale containing about 7 increments, the ones at the top earning 30-40 % more than the newbies. So much depends on the place you're at. Oh, and whatever experience-added pay you do get, the chances are it will be a fair bit more than those Turkish language teachers with their 4-year degrees, 6 months' TP and a couple of decades' classroom experience. |

Niste,
Yes, I would agree that we are paid more than the local teachers and this is always a sticky point in most schools. Generally I have found that most teachers know when they are treated as a fellow professional. This seems to reduce the incidence of problems.
I was curious more than anything else what the experience was in the K-12 schools with pay increments. It seems that the language schools in Turkey are much like they are in the countries I have already worked. I must admit that I have only worked in one language school....so do not have much experience with the language school enviroment.
Thanks for the input.
Cheers! |
