Another visa question I'm afraid but can't find info on this anywhere else.
Basically I want to go to St Pete in October but don't want to commit to some dodgy school for 4 dollars an hour before I go. A business visa seems to give maximum flexibility regarding entrance and exit dates, but is it possible then to find work as a freelancer (or some other kind of work) once I get there? I read somewhere on the net that a business visa is not the same as a work permit and that in fact with a business visa you are not supposed to be working in Russia?!
If this is so, can anyone advise me what is the best visa to take going to Russia which would enable me to stay there at least a few weeks while looking round for work (tefl or otherwise)?
thanks

This is definitely the best way in for you as trying to get a work permit for you by most russian firms would be a bureaucratic nightmare!!In fact most of them don't bother anyway!

Work permits and visas are two separate issues. To obtain a work permit, the organisation you're going to work for must have the legal status which enable them to employ foreign workers. Please note that not every Russian private enteprise has the capacity to do so. However, work visas are what you get from a Russian Consulate which allow you to enter Russia.

As one english guy told me the other week as he left russia following 3 years of trying to set-up a straight business' honest people over there who follow the rules and don't believe in paying bribes etc. are either broke, dead, or invisible!!'
As John Cleese and Eric Idle used to say in the old Monty Python comedy series days' nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more......!!

Run comrade, the whole world is with you!!
