Hello Spain forum! I am long time visitor and occasional poster to this site, but I am happy to say that I have finally decided to make the move and I am going to Madrid in September for my TEFL course and work.

My question has to deal with packing. What items, in your experience, would you consider to be in the top five most useful and worth their baggage weight in gold. Conversley, what items did you bring that you found to be not so useful. I'm thinking of teaching materials or items you found specificaly helpful in Madrid/Spain. Thanks!

Nothing heavy on this list.
As has been said on numerous occasions by many contributors, a valid passport from an EU member state is essential if you want to work legally.
If you need any prescription medicines, pack a small supply to see you through the first few weeks.
Take enough money/travellers' cheques to keep you solvent until you receive your first salary.
Electrical items such as a travel iron will require a suitable adaptor.
Passport-size photos are readily obtainable, of course, but there's no harm in taking some with you.
Pack your mobile phone and buy a new chip when you arrive.
You can buy EFL books in Madrid, so there's no need to weigh yourself down unnecessarily.
